Worldcoin: AI Resistance or Global Enslavement?
How Worldcoin’s Orb Technology Could Help Differentiate Humans from AI

If you're into crypto, you’ve likely heard of Worldcoin, a name tied by many to a nefarious New World Order plan of digital identification and control. With scarce positive media coverage and intense reactions from Bitcoiners who view it as the antithesis of Bitcoin, Worldcoin has become synonymous with controversy. Have you ever heard the phrase, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity?” Worldcoin proves this, as each news hit piece doubles as free advertising, drawing curious crowds eager to scan their irises for free money.
Like many, my first exposure to Worldcoin came through viral video clips showing crowds in Africa lining up to scan their eyes for what amounts to about $50—a week's wages in some areas. This concept intrigued me, prompting me to learn more about Worldcoin. At first glance, you'll notice that the founder is none other than Sam Altman, the co-founder of OpenAI, which helped create ChatGPT and is widely regarded as a leading figure in artificial intelligence, both in the U.S. and globally. Just last month, OpenAI raised a staggering $6.6 billion in a venture capital funding round, marking the largest in history. Artificial intelligence is poised to be the most significant invention of our lifetimes, with the potential to transform nearly every business and impact everyone, everywhere. So why is Sam Altman taking time out of his busy schedule to launch another company called Worldcoin?
If ChatGPT represents the public face of AI, imagine the capabilities of the non-public versions—especially military-grade AI, designed to run complex war games. Sam Altman holds a unique vantage point, seeing the threat of AI-driven challenges to humanity before they fully unfold, potentially culminating in an AI takeover.

Many already subscribe to the “Dead Internet Theory”—the idea that most internet traffic is generated by bots, creating and curating content through algorithms to influence global populations while minimizing real human input. Even if this isn’t fully realized yet, AI’s rapid development makes it likely that distinguishing AI from human content will soon be impossible. Today, AI influencers already attract millions of followers, many of whom don’t realize these accounts aren’t human—a fact evidenced by the genuine DMs they receive.

Sam Altman’s solution to the AI identity crisis is Worldcoin’s orbs, now deployed globally. These orbs use advanced cameras to scan your iris—your most unique biological identifier, with over five times the unique characteristics of a fingerprint. This is where distinguishing humans from AI bots begins. While current phone cameras can’t capture irises accurately, I believe that soon you’ll be using your iris to unlock phones or clear customs at airports.
When you scan your iris at a Worldcoin orb, it generates a unique identifier on the Worldcoin blockchain, verifying you as human. The concept is that World ID could eventually be used to log into the internet, creating a clearer line between humans and AI bots. Worldcoin doesn’t store your iris scan; it simply verifies your humanity and generates an ID. If you request, they’ll delete your ID from the blockchain, requiring a fresh scan to re-enroll. Worldcoin has also open-sourced its orb design to encourage global adoption and human verification. With over $250 million in funding, Worldcoin offers anywhere from $42 to $50 to those who scan their irises. Once the free incentives run out, it will be a test of whether Worldcoin achieves a network effect as a global human identifier.
Many people and countries criticize Worldcoin over privacy concerns. But to me, true privacy no longer exists—there’s no call or message that can’t be accessed by governments. Face scans are already required to unlock phones or pass through airports, so I’m less convinced by the privacy conspiracies around Worldcoin. The battle against AI manipulation will be an uphill one, and humanity will need every tool available. And to the Bitcoiners: Bitcoin may fix many things, but AI and its potential influence on humanity require different solutions.
