Is an American Tax Revolt Incoming?
Rising anger over taxes, spending, and fairness
So I just finished paying my U.S. taxes. I spent hours doing it, and now I’m going to be giving the government more of my hard-earned money. But now more than ever, paying taxes is beyond frustrating because I think everybody and their mother knows that none of this money is going to good use. It’s either going to be wasted on another pointless war in Iran, Somali daycares in Minnesota, or made-up hospice care in California.
The amount of corruption happening on all levels of the U.S. government is reaching unimaginable levels and is being done in plain sight of the American taxpayer. Not only do you have corruption, but wage earners are seeing how billionaires and major corporations like Amazon never pay taxes because they never make a profit, yet they still get to enjoy all the benefits of the system that allowed them to be successful.
The tax system is broken, as well as pretty much everything in the United States. I would not be surprised if this tax year a lot of people failed to file or just cheated as much as they can on their taxes because they don’t want their money going to fund a foreign war, and they see major corporations playing the system and not paying.
You also have calls from people like Marjorie Taylor Greene for a tax revolt. I believe the political system is completely broken, and both sides are just controlled opposition. No change will come from voting at this point, as many believed Trump was an outside force, and he is turning out to be another swamp creature.
A tax revolt would be a good nonviolent protest by the American people and a better option, but the other possibility is civil war or unrest, which would just destroy the country. Things can’t stay on the course the government has us on for much longer without collapsing our entire society. Working-class people can’t afford rent, food, and their bills without going into debt—something is going to break soon.
